Rise and Shine Readers,
It’s time to Feed your Mind!

Welcome patrons to another wonderful school year in educating ourselves. Now that the Governor has honored the students who participated in the Governor’s Summer Challenge, other goals to continue the mission of reading is ongoing. Have we visited www.wegivebooks.org to support a campaign? Please register because every time you read a book you are donating a book to a campaign of your choice. It’s not too late; you can partake in Jumpstart Reading, Haiti Campaign and many others. As we begin the 2010-2011 School Year, please take advantage of being read to and/or read five books and more per month. I’m making this appeal to you in order that you feed your mind. I have consistently done the same and really look forward to your participation, especially during the prospective reading clubs for the various grade levels.
In taking up this challenge, your peers/teachers/parents will observe great improvements in your work, behavior, and overall academic achievements. You are what you read, therefore reading inspirational, motivational, academically-inclined books, non-fiction books, and current events through newspapers, magazines, and periodicals, just to name a few can help make you achieve this goal.
Research has proven that reading more, helps children learn new words, and learning new words helps children become better readers! Having a rich vocabulary enables children to think and express themselves with precision and clarity. It also enhances their reading comprehension and opens new worlds of learning. Children who grow up in language-rich environments exhibit better reading skills, academic performance and overall success in life.
Fulfilling the recommended reading for your various grade levels and the other promotional readings assigned will generate ice-cream parties and other donated incentives by parents and community members.
Worrrd Up!
